Printing in OE defaults to Landscape 1

There must be a setting somewhere that I can't spot and change in OE 6.

Whenever I want to print out a message, whatever printer I chose to use, defaults to landscape. I can go in and change it to portrait, and it will print in portrait. But the next time I want to print something - back to landscape default.

This has not happened in the past - so it seems that something got changed somewhere. But I can't spot where.

Does OE in XP Pro SP2 have a setting somewhere that is controlling this? I have tried 4 of my different printers, and they all open up in landscape mode.

It's in Internet Explorer, File, Page Setup.

Thanks for the info. A short while back, I set IE to landscape, as even with small borders, I was getting stuff chopped off on the right. I played around with scaling, but decided that landscape was the best approach there.

It just didn't dawn on me that OE would use the IE settings. <sigh>

It would seem to me that they should have separate settings, but that's MS - they decided otherwise.

I've gone into IE, and set up the paper size and orientation for the 2 printers I use most often in Page Setup. When I go into OE, the page size is not what I set, and the orientation has reverted back to landscape.

No matter what I do, the settings won't stay put when I go into OE. The only way I can get what I want is to set them just before I print something.

Even after I set portrait and letter in IE, and OE and print something, the next time I go to print in OE, they're back to the wrong settings.

There's got to be some Registry entries controlling this. And if I could find them, I edit the Registry.

This has gotten to be a real PITA.

With OE colsed, print something from IE & make sure to set portrait settings in the print dialog.

I had already tried printing using the updated settings in OE, but that didn't help.

So, as you suggested, I set the page to be "letter", and "portrait", and printed from IE - so far so good.

Then I closed IE, reloaded it, and went into "page setup" in IE, to check out "page settings". and they were back to the old undesired settings, landscape and a different paper size.

The color laser also has selected a custom envelope paper size, as well as landscape, after it was chosen as a printer after setting it to portrait and letter.

The mono laser has returned to A4 and landscape.

Someplace, somewhere, probably in the Registry, something is controlling this all.

What a pain -

I think I've found the solution to this situation.

When calling up a printer in OE, I would then go into the printer properties, and set the page format et al. But, whatever I set was not "sticky". The next time I called for that printer in OE, it reverted to the original setting for paper and orienation.

However, if I went into the same "Printer Preferences" window outside of OE, using my desktop icon for that printer, and set the paper preferences et al, they now became "sticky". And, whenever that printer was called for in IE or OE, they were the settings I had made earlier, letter size, and portrait.

So, the default settings for the printer must be set "OUTSIDE" of IE and OE, and they will then remain as the defaults for IE and OE.
