I am in the process of setting up remote access to a Unix server located in Toronto. I am located in Indiana. We are using Contivity VPN client to establish the connection to their Windows network. We then use Tiny Term Plus to establish connection to their Unix server. We have all of this functioning fine. We can look at their datatbases on the Unix and run through their data base menu. Our problem is printing. Is their a way to set up within Unix a printer definition so we can print reports from the database system to our connected PC in Indiana?

There are likely a few different options.
1). TinyTERM includes it's own LPD Server, where it can launch a little listening process and respond to LPR/LPD requests. You'll need to consult the TinyTERM docs on this, as I haven't played with it for years.
2). Use SMB on the Unix box (Samba or VisionFS) to allow the Unix system to print to a Shared printer on your Windows PC. You will need to put a hosts entry for your PC on the Unix system.
3). Put the Indiana printers on an HP JetDirect print server (or similar).
4). See if the application on the UNIX box can use "pass-thru" printers. Some can.

Please indicate which version of UNIX you are using, and the application involved as well.

Another option is to install Microsoft TCP/IP Print Services on your Windows print server, which is an LPD compatible print service listening on port 515. Then you can print via any Windows print server just like it was a Unix box.

You can do this through Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components | Other Network File and Print Services.

The version of UNIX/AIX is 5.2
The version of TinyTerm is 4.04.0557
The application we are trying to print from is MTMS, a mznufacturing ERP system.

The version of UNIX/AIX is 5.2
so, why posting in the SCO Unix forum ?
