Hi there!

Here is my situation, we install Vision Services in our SCO Version 5.0.7 in order to be able to print to a printer attached to a Windows PC.

As long the printer is PCL and the PC is running Windows XP Pro with the Firewall turn off, it prints fine.

Now comes Vista, We have a client with Vista Business. We have tried everything that we know and we can not get it to print. When we send a test page from UNIX to the printer attached to the Vista PC we get the following error:
"The TID specified in a command was invalid"
AS you can see this error is rather vague. This error is listed in the errlp.log of Vision Services.

Does any one knows what we need to do to print from UNIX to a PC running Vista Business?

I have been successful in printing to a Vista Ultimate PC.

By the way, we do not use Samba because it is even harder to get it to print.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Joe

Can't you install the MS LPD service on the PC and then declare a remote printer in the SCO box ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

PHV:

I tried to set up a remote printer from UNIX. For this to work, I have to turn on a Windows feature called "Printing Services for UNIX". Vista does not have that, I does have something called "Subsystem for UNIX-base Applications" that have the necessary code for the printing, but this item is only available in Vista Ultimate and Enterprise, if you have one of the other Vistas, you are out of luck.

It is possible that there is a patch or work around to this problem?

Should I put this question in the Vista forum?

Joe

All vista versions have it.
Look at in Control Panel, click Programs and Features, click Turn Windows features on or off, expand Print Services,

you will have LPR and LPD services there.

Hum. maybe not. following link has info for a mac, but same should apply to a unix machine.

basically. following the LPD install mentioned above, share printer, then add the ip of the vista machine + share name to your unix config.

Thank you all and specially fredericofonseca for the info, turning on lpd under print services did the trick.

You also have to share the printer, specify under Vision Services in UNIX the login ID and Password of the PC administrator, and disable all software firewalls in the PC.

Thanks
