Hello All
We have two hp8150 loaded with HP ps drivers running on NT 4.0. The problems we are having are when we print from Indesign the file balloon in size from 7-8mb to 50-130mb and transfer very slowly. This only occurs from Indesign if we PDF the file they print fine. I have test the pring from other Adobe packages and all is fine. I have loaded the printer on a Win2k box and have the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

One thing to keep in mind is that if the images in the Id file are linked, their size does not show up in the size of the ID doc. That 7-8 megs is really only some text and code in the doc. It's easy for the file to grow immensely when you add the size of all the images. 50 to 150 MB is quite reasonable. To see an example, open a small ID doc with linked images, noting its size. If you opne the Links window, select all the images and select Embed, watch the file size zoom up - a lot. The easiest way to control this and get fast prints is to do what you're doing, make a good quality pdf.

If you do want to print directly out of ID here are a few things to possibly speed things up.

You might try checking some of your settings in the Grpahics pane of the print window. Optimized subsampling is a lot smaller than All in Images send data and should give proper results on a local printer. If you've used a lot of fonts and have selected Complete rather than Subset, you'll get a bump in size.

Under the Advanced tab you can play with the transparency flattener settings. See if medium gives an adequate results.
