Printing from ethernet?

I have a hp5000N laser jet hooked up to a dlink hub that allows to macs to print to it. I tried hooking up my compaq to the hub as well and it doesnt seem to find the connection. Any 1 point me in the right direction for setting up this connection.

I have already checked the default printer, it is on lpt1 printer port,i dont think it is a true postscript printer either. Thanks in advance

Did you assign an IP address to the printer?

I did not assign a IP, Is that how it works, do i need to print a spec sheet from the printer and make the local area connection assigned to the printer ip.

also, if i assign a printer ip and also want to use the internet that is hooked up to another hub, is that possible without going wireless.
