When I click on the print icon after I run a report (in Crystal Report format) and I am viewing using the Active X viewer I am prompted with a dialog box that says the following:

Enter the page that you would like to print

ALL
Pages 1:1

To Print:
1. In the next dialog box that appears, select the "Open this file" option and click the OK button.
2. Click the printer icon on the Acrobat reader menu rather than the print button on your internet browser.

Print

After clicking print a File Download dialog box comes up where you should choose Open. Then I see an Adobe Acrobat 6.0 page and then it moves the report into an Adobe Acrobat format.

THe question I have is, is this typical. Also, it appears that anyone who is having to print from Crystal Enterprise should have Adobe Acrobat 6 installed.

This is not typical. Do you have Acrobat set up as your default printer?

What version of Crystal Enterprise are you using? This is typical behavior in the DHTML viewer in CE 9.

You also need to change the ,pdf download behavior. in Folder Options - File types. select .pdf then Advanced. Clear the "confirm after download" check box.

OK, thanks. It looks like it does happen from the DHTML viewer and it also appears that this is the default viewer for all users. There must be a way to globally change the default viewer preference that is used when a user views a report. I noticed that there is a preferences manager but I can only do one user at a time. Any help would be appreciated. I am using the Premium version of Crystal Enterprise 9.

Look at globals.csp. You can change the default veiwer there.

I have one other problem and this is only happening on one PC (Windows 2000 professional OS). When I switched the viewer to the ActiveX viewer I then tried to view an instance and I continually get this message: "The Crystal ActiveX Viewer is unable to create it's resource objects." and it does not open the instance.

I searched the Knowledgebase to no avail. I think what it is supposed to do is download a file to the PC the first time you use the viewer and it must not have been able to do that. Any help would be appreciated. All of the other PCs in our test room appear to work fine.

I have found this usually to be a permissions issue with the user trying to download the viewer or a browser setting that does not permit downloading the active x.

Thank You Chuck. I modified the globals.csp and changed it to default viewer of 0 or ActiveX viewer. Obviously users can change this if they want but at least the default will be correct. I am going to log into that machine as administrator and see if that file downloads. That may fix the error I am getting...

how do you modify the global.csp? This looks like something we are seeing too but I have no idea how to do that??

To modify globals.csp just go to this location \Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Web Content\Enterprise 9\ePortfolio\en\globals.csp. Edit the globals.csp file in notepad or whatever. There is a default settings section with the following code. The var DEF_VWR defaults to 1 which is the DHTML viewer. I changed it to 0 below which is the ActiveX viewer.

// start of modification
//var DEF_VWR = 1; // DHTML viewer
var DEF_VWR = 0; // ActiveX viewer
// end of modification

That will change the default viewer when a user logs into ePortfolio. But if they change their preference their choice will stick...

This change needs to be made on every workstation to fix the default viewer, correct?

I went to change the global.csp and noticed that our default is set to -1 (we are in CE 8.5) -- very interesting.
