That's exactly that comes up in communication window, exclamation point and all. I was simply copying a two page document when the error arose, stopping the second page in the middle of the scan. I cleared the document and tried re-copying it. No dice. Now the only function availabe is faxing. If I try to print from my PC I get the "MFC Connect Failure" warning. I've unplugged the printer and rebooted the computer multiple times, and replaced the printer cable twice, to no avail. I noticed that the Black ink was low, and changed the cartidge out. It failed to recognize that the change had been made, and even refuses to clean the head after the change. The manuel has no reference to "Printing Error!" and a search of Brother's Help Site yields nothing, other than a gazillion articles that have nothing to do with the problem. Because the problem occured during a simple copying job, I'm assuming that the problem lies physically within the printer, as opposed to the cable or PC. I feel that the error code just needs to be reset, but HOW?

I'm running the printer off an Pentium III HP Pavillion with Windows 98SE and 256 mb RAM.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Found this at the Brother's site, which may help:

Some things that you did not mention doing is making sure the parallel port is enabled in BIOS, checking for problems with the LPT1 port in Device Manager, and uninstalling and reinstalling the printer's software.

If nothing works, then see if the printer works on another system.
If not, then it may be bad.

If it does, then your LPT1 port may be bad.

Did all those things except try the printer on another PC. The MFC is a huge machine to be schlepping around, but as a last resort I may tow it into work and try it on a machine there. To be honest, because the problem occured while doing a simple COPY operation, I feel fairly certain the problem in within the printer itself rather than in the PC.

Thanks for your help! If you're in the States, have a great holiday weekend!

You're welcome, thanks for the well wishes, and good luck with the printer.
