Hi All

Have picked up an application that will magically turn my .doc into .pdf - really easily. All I have to do now is automate it. Easy.

The application works as a printer driver. The info I have says that in code you can ".. then print to the driver with the printer job name as default file name."

In effect, I have to change some printer settings. Easy I'm sure, but how???

I hate printers, so please help me on this one.

Iterate through the printers collection until you find the 'desired' printer name. Set the current printer to the element in the printers collection. IF you want to be a 'nice' user, save the origninal printer before you start the search for your pdf printer and set it back to this when the print job is done.

Hi MichaelRed

Congrats on TipMaster of the week. As I remember most of it was down to humour!!

The printer collection is easy to use - haven't got stuck there.

I have got stuck with the actual printing. How do I send a word document to a printer, specifying the "printer job name as default file name" like the vendor has stated on their web site?

Any ideas? Have written to the vendor - but they aren't too keen on supplying support.

Generally, when printer drivers are set up for 'Print to File', there is a part of the setup for the printer which specifies either to prompt for a file name (usually the default?) or to actually 'install' a default file name for the output. In the latter instance, it is the user's responsability to make sure the file name is 'available' for use. e.g. Either the old file is not wanted or the user has renamed / copied the file to other "locations". I would think the atter option would work well, as you would - within the same procedure where you do the "print", you would wait for the completion of the job and rename the default file to your desired name.
