If I use a single line boarder to print a line for a data field on the report it works if there is a data in the data field. If there is no data in the field then no single line border prints. This works the same if the underline option is used in the data field.

How can I get a line to show up even if data does not exist in the field being printed and use only one field. I can place an empty text field with a single line border and that will work but rather than trying to create duplicate text objects for every field I would like to see if there is a way to do it all in one field.

Thanks in advance for the help.
John

Create a text box and format it with a single line border on the bottom. Then place your data field inside the text box.

kskid, thanks for the help. That is the only way I figured out to get it printed. I was hoping to get a solution that would allow me to use just the data field and either turn on a check box or something that says 'always print border' or some code to force the border to print for the data field.

Thanks,
John

You can't print a border on something that isn't there, so you either have to use a text box or a formula that returns something like:

if isnull({table.field}) then
" " else //include a space
{table.field}

Thanks for the information lbass. The formula way works great and only one field. I am going to see which one is easier to use, The formula way will handle when I need to print a blank line or one item of multiples.

Thanks,
John
