HI,

Im just getting to grips with illustrator, at the moment im trying to print out a A4 poster which i have produced in Illustrator 10.

My problem is i can't seem to get my head round the printable area on the artboard, when my poster is printed out - only half the poster is printed out on landscape setting - Can i change the dotted print area line in illustrator to fit my poster dimesions ?

Cheers

The answer is easier than u would expect.
First go to print setup and set the dimensions of your paper as u like. Than use "page tool" (in the tools bottom left corner) . Than just click and drag in your drowing to position your printable area.

AI has both and 'artboard' (the solid black line) and 'page tiling' (the 2 dotted squares). The gap between the dotted squares is your printer margins and they will change size depending on what printer you choose as well as the paper size you select in the page layout. What this means is that you have to have both document set up and print set up to agree (same settings). Conviently, there is a check box in your document setup that says "use page setup" so you can be sure they match. Now since you've made changes, your artboard and page tiling likely dont line up. To fix this simply double click on the page tool (grouped with the hand and ruler tools). BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
