I am in the process of setting up forced access codes and the SMDR system. I have been given a Hewlett Packard Thinkjet and am going to purchase the neccessary 355 Adapter and so forth. It seems hard to find paper and ink. I know that it needs to be a certain type of printer. Should I just purchase a new one and if so what would be a compatible one?

I have had luck finding old dot matrix at goodwill and thrift shops. As long as the printer is has a Serial Interface and you can find the dip switch settings for the baud rate and so on... you are good. Over the past few years i have accumulated some nice little Okidata printers and hadn't paid more than about 10 bucks for any of them

FYI, (since this is August and you first posted this in June, you may already know) SMDR output is SERIAL, so Parallel printer wont work.

Get a Serial printer, or send it to your COM port and collect it as Tab-Delimited data

What kind of adapter would I need to send the smdr data to a com port on a computer?

I would like to know how to send it to the com port
I have tried no avail
