Why does my computer experience slow downs when printing? (e.g. emails go out slower, programs open slower) Does it use that much resources to print?

I have a very fast, up to date system and I am just wondering. Currently have 1.8g athlon, 1.25g ram, 200 gig hard drive, etc..

My printer is about 4 years old, an HP 720C. I dont know much about printers with onboard memory, I can guess that would make a big difference.

HP doesn't want to acknowledge clearly in its documentation, but this looks like a GDI printer, meaning that the actual print processing is done almost in its entirety by the host system CPU. This will cause an unescapable slowdown of the system because it is using a sizeable amount of its processing resources to handle the printout. You may want to look around to see if there is an updated driver available.

Good luck,
Engin
