I have my printers shared from a Redhat box to a windows network. When I browse to the linux machine's share, I see all of my shared printers. Then I click into "Printers and Faxes" and I see the same printers again only with different icons. The second set allows me to change properties, etc. Why is the first set of printers showing up? I don't have them defined in my smb.conf.

Thanks

A little confused on your wording, are you asking why you automatically see the printers in your control panel in XP? XP automatically seeks all shared folders and printers. If you go to Tools>Folder Options for Explorer, there's an option you can uncheck to prevent this.
