I have an issue with a 10 term site. On Term6, there are two printers hooked up, one is a remote printer which is patched through the wall, and is a down the bar, and the other is hooked directly up to that term. The remote printer is using adapters (both are epson tm-88s), while the other is using a serial cable.

Both printers are giving "not communicating" errors. The term has been replaced, the printers have been tested elsewhere. and work. The patch cabling has been tested, the cat5 jacks have been tested. Everything has been swapped and works elsewhere, but not in that area and not on term 6.

The only thing in my mind left is a power issue. The two printers use separate outlets, but are nearby each other on the same side of the bar, while on the other side of the bar, another printer next to term5 lives on just fine. When the printer and cable are taken to that term5, they work...when they come back to 6, they stop communicating.

Earlier, a month ago, I got the remote printer working by changing the power supply because it kept saying error, no matter what printer i hooked up. It worked for a few weeks but is not working again. Both printers come on fine, and self test fine, yet continue to refuse to communicate.

Any suggestions?

I'll just add that the remote printer is on com2, and the local receipt printer is on com1, a setup which has worked for years at the site, but has suddenly stopped working due to this "not communicating" error.

You say the term was replaced. Was this replaced before or after the printer problem?

Are you sure the com port assignments or printer types were not changed in Aloha Manager?

Have you tried placing another working printer (with it's power supply) in the position of one or both of the non-working printers? This will eliminate the term or it's com ports if the replacement printer works in both positions.
