Hi

I have to install some drivers for some printers on the network (not attached to any unix system).
I never done it and have no idea where to start..

First: where do I find the drivers for a specific printer example: HP Colour LaserJet 5500

Second: when I get the driver and install it how to configure it and make a test ?

If you know some docs to explain .. Thanks a lot in advance.
In the mean time I am doing some google

What has this got to do with AIX? Have you tried the HP website, or the CD that came with the printer?

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Hi there,

a good way to start looking is

smitty spooler
smitty printer

maybe also smitty install

Regards
Thomas

Try using the hplj-c as the printer type. This is typically a generic driver for hp color laser printers. This should be part of what is available when adding a hpJetDirect print queue. If you don't have hpJetDirect available as an option, then you need to install this as part of the printers package from your AIX cd. When you go to add a print queue in smit and select hpJetDirect, it will tell you if it is not installed, and prompt you to put in the AIX cd. From there just follow the instructions and it should be good. Note that you must be logged in as root to do this.

Hi

After looking around, I think I have to install the filesets printers from the CD AIX and I will be able to use those drivers.

Then be I will be able to congigure a new printer as Thomas suggested.

Thanks Thomas

I will try this today and let you know.

Cheers
Al
