Printer WONT PRINT under XP

I have a DeskJet 672C printer w/xp drivers.
the printer is set to online and is on
the light just blinks when trying to print
the print job shows up in windows as "printing"
printer doesnt move paper or anything... just blinks


How I installed:

printer on com1
com1 set to detect legacy plug and play
installed printer
printed test page - success
tried to print another page w/o changing any settings -fail

Have you tried to install the 672C on LPT1 (the printer port)?
I have the same printer on my machine (running XP Professtional) installed on the printer port - of course!
