Printer Subistitutions

I was wondering if you could help me. I have a
metaframe 1.8 server running
and I have dozens of remote offices across the US
connecting to our server
to run a published app. Im running into printers
that I have no idea on
what to substitute the driver with.

Is there a master list someplace to tell me if the
clients printer is a HP
PHOTOSMART I can edit the wpsuprn.ini file to use
this driver?

Also I have heard a lot about a third party product
called UNIPRINT

you heard of this product
and would you suggest trying it for somebody in my
situation that has dozens
of printers that seem unsupportable.

ANY advice or suggestions would be greatly

I've heard good things about Uniprint, but I've also heard some (unconfirmable) rumours about their trading, which makes my faith in the company a little shaky. What I'm saying here is the product is good, but the life-expentancy of the company MAY not be.

Most printers can be aliased in the wtsuprn.inf file - if it's an HP DeskJet, I test it first using the standard DeskJet driver, then try other ones until I can get as many printer features working as possible.

Most of the time, however, clients see this approach as time-consuming - and I find I have to second-guess which driver is most appropriate.

The best way to start is to make a list of all likely printers and make sure that there is a mapping in this file for them.

There is a list of supported printers under Terminal Server - it's called ntprint.inf ;-) Also, try this for a ready-made alias list - it's pretty good
