I have 2 issues with Windows XP sp1. (may be related)

logged in as a standard user (non admin) :
if i change the screen res to say 1024x768, it will change ok. then i log off and back on as same user and the res will start at 1024x768, then the screen goes blank and it changes to 1280x1024.
also, i am unable to install a network printer as a standard user account. must use admin only. this is causing problems for us.

any ideaas on these?
thanks heaps
glenn

bcasyner,
thanks for the info

i think this issue relates more to a registry issue.
do you know of anything i could look for that will stop a user making perminant changes to the registry?
i have also heard just now that even a desktop icon or document placed will be removed at next logon.
its as though the registry isnt allowing a standard user to make ANY changes.

your thoughts?
thanks once again
glenn

You can achieve this result through either:

. the use of Mandatory profiles; or,
. Group Policy

forgot to mention, this is a Nt4 domain and XP Pro sp1 pc's

we dont have group policies setup
??

An NT domain supports mandatory profiles. In addition, nearly all Group Policies are essentially registry entries. These can be put in place when creating the desktop images, or pushed through logon scripts.
