Printer Problems with OS 8.6

I'm new to Macs and when I need to print to a certain printer, I have to set that printer up everytime, otherwise it locks my system up and I have to restart the computer. Any help would be great.

On a mac you did not mention using a interface you did not mention to a printer brand and model you did not mention, you are having to reload the driver software each page?
