Hi

Having a bit of problem setting up plain ASCII line printer on Suse Linux and hoping someone may be able to provide advice.

I've setup the print queue with out a problem and can print fine, however i'm unable to get the print job to print out using plain old straight 12cpi ASCII text, the printer is an Epson LQ 1170 running through a Netgear Print server and i've used the Yast2 interface to setup the queue without a hitch, it's just the damn print jobs compress when output to the printer using I think 8/9 cpi. All that i'm trying to do is print out a 12 CPI report in plain ASCII without this damn compression. Please see printcap entry below:-

p2: :cm=lpdfilter drv=upp method=auto color=yes: :lp=172.17.5.102%9101: :sd=/var/spool/lpd/p2: :lf=/var/spool/lpd/p2/log: :af=/var/spool/lpd/p2/acct: :if=/usr/lib/lpdfilter/bin/if: :ar:lpd_bounce:lpr_bounce:force_localhost@: :tr=:cl:lk:sh:

btw, have tried method=ascii.

There surely must be a way of setting up the print queue to just output plain text to the printer?

Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with Suse, but I solved a similar problem in Red Hat by defining the printer as raw (no driver).
