My printer goes offline by itself periodically. I can't find any procedure for putting it back Online.

I can't think of any graceful way to mention this, so I will be brutal.

Those folks who would like to help you, can't. They do not know the vendor, model, or even the technology of your printer.

Is it an inkjet, a laser, a dot matrix?
Is it by Lexmark or Xerox or Kodak?
Is it a z1800 or a 8570 or a LJ5Si?

You would be surprised how much having any clue what you have, would help someone give more advice than I just did.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I forgot Parallel, serial, USB, wifi, or netork cable.

Thanks all for the quick response. It was simpler than I thought. The 4-way printer cable switch is faulty. The indicator light works but there was no connection to the printer.
