Before changing the motherboard in the office computer because it had a keyboard port failure, the scanner (Mustek 600 III EP) and printer (Lexmark Z22) both worked fine, I could use the scanner as a photocopier, then when the keyboard port failed, I changed the motherboard, now, the printer will not work if connected to the scanner, I connected the printer direct to the pc, it worked fine, I then connected the scanner direct to the pc, it worked fine, I cycled through each of the lpt port settings in the bios, normal, epp, ecp+epp, neither of them let the printer work with the scanner, the scanner works either with or without the printer connected to the scanner.

I even updated the scanner and printer drivers from their respective manufacture driver download sites and still the printer does not work, the printer software displays an error saying that it cannot communicate with the printer.

Hi,

In the printer driver setup, is there a setting called something set to allow or disable "bidirectional communication" that allows the printer drivers to display status messages on screen.
If there is, try turning this off.

John

Try changing the type of parallel port defined in the BIOS. Start with ECP, then try other choices: EPP, Standard, PS/2.
