I have a HP Laserjet 1200 printer (model parallel port) and the desktop Dell use it thru a usb conversor cable.

The printer normaly works, but sometimes I send documents and nothing happens, as if the cable weren't plugged on.

I already changed the printer and the cable, and also I used another usb port available. I presume the problem is in Windows.

What could be the problem?

thanks

When the printer fails, are there errors in the Device Manager regarding the USB Converter cable, or generally in the Event Viewer?

Have you tried removing the USB Converter from Device Manager, rebooting, and letting Windows rediscover it.

Have a look at this site too.

Get a new printer and do away with converter cables comes to mind too.
