I have been having a frustrating time over the last few days. I tried to send a fax and did not think that now I am using DSL I would need to reinstall my old 56k modem. When it did dawn on this idiot.I could not get the drivers that would work for my Acer USB modem. I gave up and sent the fax using my daughters office resource. Then my problems really started.Now I cannot get the LexmarkX73 scanner/Printer to work.I have not had much difficulty using the scanner/printer and email before this. I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling many times in the last three days, both from my setup discs and from Lexmark support.My computer freezes after I am asked to connect the USB to the computer and the printer.The task manager erroneously indicates that the installation is running. When I give up and end using the task manager I get a message telling me that the computer cannot find a file and gives me the following details;
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\xarunst.exe

I have looked and there is no xarunst.exe on my computer anywhere. Obviously it has disappeared along the way.

What should I do to resolve this problem?

Regards,

Jamhen

Did you remove the modem and remove any reference to it? Can you do a "system restore" back to where it did work?

Thanks micker377,

Yes modem and all reference to it gone. I did a sustem restore back to March 12, I know it was ok then. Problem puzzling.

When you plug in the X73 does Windows even see that there is a device attached? If it doesn't your usb cable could be faulty or worse your USB port on the pc.

Try using a diffrent USB port on your pc see if that makes any diffrence, if you have another USB cable try to use that see if it makes any diffrence.

Once you can get your pc to see the printer it should use the drivers already installed or it will prompt for the drivers of the cd.

Also, disable your Anti-Virus software before installing. The X73 software behaves in exactly that manner if AV is running.

Do you have another USB device you can use to check the USB ports on the computer?
