My Xerox 860 comes on with a printer jam error

Does the jam message display immediately upon power up? Where does the message indicate a jam? Front cover, exit cover, etc.? If it is a static jam, i.e. immediately at power up, then there is a sensor either stuck in paper present position or there is a piece of paper such as a corner off a page stuck tripping the sensor. If it is at the front cover then check the preheat entry sensors which can be seen if you remove the shiny metal shield right inside as you open up the front cover. If it is exit jam then the sensor is located up inside on the left near the large black transfix roller, but you need to remove the drum heater assy to access it. In either case you can try and manually hand feed a piece of card stock up through the preheater(normal paper path)all the way up to the exit assy, this may dislodge any paper scraps stuck at sensors.
