I have a Brother HL1040 Laser Printer. I have an XP system set to hibernate automatically. When I bring the system back from hibernation the first time I attempt to print I get only a line or two of symbols and it wants to print multiple pages. Once I cancell the initial print job and clear the printer everything works fine again until the next hibernation.
I know this is a small problem but I have tried every setting I can think of to no avail and it is annoying.
Any suggestions to get windows and the printer to communicate before the first print would be appreciated.

This issue has been traced before to either:

. A printer driver issue;
. and/or, the use of a cable that is not 1284 certified.

Thank you. If it is a driver problem there is no solution as the only driver available for this printer is built into WinXP. The cable has been fine for a long time with win98 but may be the problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I have finally resolved this problem. It seems my Parallel port setting got changed to ECP port and the brother printer only appears to work properly with a Bi Directional port setting. So simple and yet so frustrating.
