5.0.5E with all patches running latest Synchronics having printer issues with 2 printers.

2-Digi8e, ttyi1x for terminals ttyi2x for printers

1st-ttyi2f set as invoice in printers
2nd-netcat based network printer named fax

ttyi2f (as a direct dump) and invoice accept and print from root and both worked at one time from Synchronics but now seem to be black holes. The netcat printer works from root and other applications. Permisssions up and down the line are the same for working and non-working printers.
Printers tty12a to e work as hardware dumps and as named printers.

Any troubleshooting advice? I suspect a transfer problem from the application but haven't been able to prove it yet.

Verify that both can be printed from a shell by a non-root user.
Check /usr/spool/lp/admins/lp (and sub-directories) for phantom entries. I've seen where one or more printers will cease working because there is a directory out in this area for a printer which no longer exists. The LP print system has to scan through this entire area, and a bad directory can make it ignore printers which fall afterwards.
Run /tcb/integrity -e.
Look for /usr/spool/lp/admins/lp/printers/{printername}/{allow|deny} files.

Another potential step: Disable the printer in UNIX, then print from the Application. Do you get a listing with lpstat -o?

numbers 2 and 4 have already been done, the other 3 will be this morning.

Directories are clean. Nothing building in requests, although I didn't force it via disabling.

Thank you. I'll report back.

In troubleshooting I had moved the printer to terminal then back. Ownership had not moved back. That was #1 problem at hand. As soon as it was changed the hardware worked. Then I ran through the items:
1)Non-root user could access the both hardware and spooled
2)No phantom entries
3)Integrity showed lots of problems even after it worked
4)No allow or deny files

Synchronics requires printers to be defined for spooling. Customer hadn't done that. Now have the dotmatrix printer spooler working, not yet on the netcat one but will follow up Monday.

Thanks again.
