Printer Error(the Object Instance Test Does Not Exist)

Hello, i need some help about how to set up a high velocity impact printer in UNIX SCO 5.05,

this printer is attached with a parallel port in a PC(host), the host use tunemul to access unix.(this reference is just to ask you if this is a local or remote connection, just to be sure),

so, i was using mkdev lp
and following all the steps


when i finished all appears right

the command lpstat -t says :
printer test is idle. enabled since Wed Sep 04 12:44:36 2002. available.

at this point all looks good

but, when i send the print job nothing happens

lp -d test .profile // example

What do you mean by "PC(host)"? What OS is running on this PC? If it's some variation of Windows, you probably need to install Samba on the UNIX box to be able to print.

Typically with UNIX, the only time you use remote printing is for printing to another UNIX server, or to some device that simulates UNIX printing. Most forms of network printing from a UNIX server use local printing which pipes the file through an interface program that communicates with the print server over the network.

If you went straight to "mkdev lp" it is not surprising that your printer interface does not work. You need to install the necessary software on the UNIX server to support the print server you are using. With Windows PC's that software is typically Samba (a freeware program). Other print servers usually come with software and install instructions for UNIX.

To help you any further with this, I need to know what OS is running on the PC.
