My nephews printer (Epson C42+) has stopped working so I went down to have a look at it. It was powering up properly, no warning lights were flashing and all leads were conected, but when you attempt to print anything nothing happens.
I figured it must be a driver problem so I downloaded the latest driver from the Epson website. I then tried to uninstall the driver that is currently on the computer and ran into problems. when I clicked the uninstall button from within add/remove programs in XP I get a dialog box saying the following:
16bitWindows\system32\Autoexec.NT

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32|AUTOEXEC.NT

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications.

I thought it must be a corrupted driver, so I thought I'd try installing the new driver over the old one. When I double clicked the driver package, it unzipped to a temporary folder and tried to run. Unfortunately all it does is bring up the same error dialog box as above when I tried to uninstall the driver.

So I can't uninstall the old driver and I can't install a new one, so I'm stumped. I thought I'd post here in case anyone can think of a possible solution, I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Disconnect the printer from the computer. Reboot into safe mode and remove everything to do with printers. Replace the cartridge (probably why it quit in the first place <grin>), and reinstall according to instructions. How does the printer connect to the printer? If through LPT1 (parallel), connect printer before starting the computer. If USB (tiny cable), install software before connecting printer. The instructions will explain all this properly.

Thanks guys. I'll try both of those this afternoon.
