We are running netware 6 servers with windows 2000 clients. I have a couple of users who have a particular printer which keeps disappearing from their printer folder each time they log back on. We have been unable to download the driver for this particular printer (HP 2100) via ndps so have to add it manually through the Add printer wizard. It works fine until they shut down their pc and then when they log back on its disappeared. Other printers are still there. I wondered if it could be profile related as a lot of our users are having a 'your locally stored profile is newer than your roaming profile' message at log on. However deleting profiles for other users with this message has had no effect and I can't think of anything else to try. Do you think it is a profile issue or something else?

Do your users have local administrator access to the workstation? If not, try installing the printer logged in as a local administrator user.

No they don't they are power users. Thanks for the tip I'll try that

No tried that and the printer disappeared again at the next log on

You probably have the container/group/user configured to only "allow specified printers". This will cause this exact same behavior. Go into NWADMIN and look at your NDPS distribution settings.

We've got the same problem with the Broker not liking the HP2100 drivers, it's a universal driver for the 2xxx series and the Broker never likes those type of drivers.

Another thing to check in NWAdmin: doubleclick the printer in question, then select NDPS Remote Printer Mgmt. Make sure that neither Install to or Remove from workstations in this container is checked. I've seen the Install to check play havok with the HP2100 (near as I can tell, since the Broker doesn't have the drivers to install, it bails out and deletes the existing printer. Why it even tries to load an existing printer I don't know).

what way have you set the gateway up then
are you using the novell gateway rather than the hp one

we have no probs with the 2100's

We've been using the HP gateway. I've switched some of our printers over to the Novell gateway to solve problems that cropped up when we went from NW5.0 to NW6.5. I'm planning on switching the rest of the printers over when I get time.

You're probably right, the switch should fix the 2100 problems.

Hi - yes we have all our printers using the HP gateway - I'll try switching to Novell and see if helps
