this may sound absolutely bizarre, but i seem to have a mental block right now..!

im looking at working out the cost per page for a number of printers we own, some of which take more than one consumable at a time (for example, a colour laser has 4 toners, a belt and a fuser kit) which all last different lengths of time..

what im looking for is a formula in excel to work out the cost per print. I'm sure it should be simple, but its the end of the day and my brain just doesnt seem to want to work :-(
 
Well, you would first have to know how much toner there is, how long the devices last, and what the original costs are. To get really technical, you have the cost of electricity, tech support, and the printer itself. ~Apex1x

yeah, i have all the values i need to work with, i just cant work out what to do with them [blush]
 
well what are your stats there?
you talkin little printers?/ production printers? need more info that is what i believe to be correct.

its a colour laser im trying to work out for, which takes various bits as i said in the first message :) 4 toners, belt and fuser (toners last 12000 pages, belt 12000, fuser 150000) and theyre all in the region of £100 a go.. :eek:
 
ok it came out to be .4173333 per print not including stock.
the way to get this number is to take the fuser life, 150,000 impressions and divide the toner and belt life into it, 150,000/12,000. you use 125 toners and belts for every fuser. 4 toners and 1 belt per fuser. {(125 x 4) + 125 +1}x 100 = 62,600. 62,600/150,000= .417333333/impression.

erm, looks good, but doesnt take into account the prices of the various items?

plus whered you get 125 from? i make it 12.5 :)

The way I looked at the problem was:

Fuser (150,000 impressions at $100)

Assuming the toner cartridges are distributed evenly among the four cartridges:
Toner (12,000 sheets at $400)

So for these five devices to operate, it costs:
(100/ 150 000) + (400 / 12 000) = about $ 0.03333 per page

This is just for the toner and fuser to operate, but what also must be added in is the paper cost, the printer purchase cost, repair/maintenance cost, and electricity cost.

sorry i seem to have dropped the decimal that first time.
with using only 12.5 toners and belts per fuser it comes out even cheaper.
{(a x 4) + b + c}x d= e
e/f=g
{(12.5 x 4) + 12.5 +1}x 100 = 6350. 6350/150,000=.042333
a= toners per fuser
b= belts per fuser
c= fuser
d= average price per part (toner, belt, fuser)
e= total cost for all parts per fuser life
f= impressions per fuser
g= cost per impression excluding stock costs

Windows calculator kinda sucks, my total should be $0.034, not $0.03333.
