Hi folks,

we have local (and shared) printer configured on a Linux Box and are trying to access it from an AIX box over the network ...

The share is called "sp1" and on AIX the printer is supposed to be known as SP114.

Now I tried the basic "smitty spooler" -> "remote printer" setup but somehow I'm not able to connect to the remote printer. The queue is always going down almost immediately.

Could someone give me a hint on how to configure such a printer under AIX ? Nothing special, just basic configuration ...

Regards
Thomas

Q1. is LPD server running on the LINUX box? Try telnetting to the LINUX box on port 515. I.e.

[tt]# telnet linuxhost 515[/tt]

and see if a connection can be set up.

Q2. Did you grant LPD access to the AIX box (LPD client) from the LINUX box (LPD server)?

In a unix to unix printing scenario, you need to specify the hostname, either short hostname or fully qualified dns name or both - that the client's IP address resolves to, in the file /etc/hosts.lpd
