Print to file in Unix

I have an old app that runs on FoxPro 2.6 for Unix SCO 5.0.5. There is an invoice report that has boxes in it to surround various information. Printing to a printer works fine and has for years, but if I print to a file I get the graphic characters instead of the boxes. I searched the forum and found very similar problems that indicate it is a font problem. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this in Unix. I eventually want to email these invoices.
