I have a machine running Windows 2000. The printers have disappeared. I cannot add any printers. I cannot even go to Server properties and see the drivers. I get an error Print Subsystem is unavailable. I tried removing all printers via regedit. I tried replacing spoolsv.exe. I tried restarting the print spool service, but it doesn't stay started. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion, but that didn't help either.

The printers disappear if the spooler sevice is not running, which as you stated is true in your case.

If after carefully following Bruce Sanderson's advice from the link above you cannot restart the spooler service, there are other issues involved.

Is the Remote Procedure Call service running?

If that service is not running as well, do a repair reinstallation of the OS:
