I added a printer to a computer on a network, and shared it successfully. Some computers managed to connect to it but many tell me that the computer is unable to accept any more connections. I checked the Shares | Print option and Maximum Allowed is checked. What else should I look for??

Thanks.

At the PC with the printer, open a command prompt(DOS window)enter:

net config server press enter

this will list the max # of users.

I think the XP max is 5.

Maximum logged on users is set to 10. How do I change that??

You don't. Microsoft hard coded it so that you would buy their server software!

One way round it - if all you want is a print server is to get hold of an old PC - even a half decent PII wll do and install one of the free versions of LINUX on it!

Of course - someone may know better!

Put the printer on a Win98 or linux computer instead of XP Pro.

Linux - unless you like re-booting the print server twice a day! (or more)

We do not have a Win98 nor a Linux machine. We do have a main server though. This printer was attached via USB to one of he comptuers on the network because the print servers we have only have parallel ports, which this printer does not have. Short of purchasing a print server with a USB port, is there any other way I can share this printer??

Your earlier post shows that are sharing this printer - up to the limit that the operating system allows. Aside from changing to a server operating system (or Win9x) on the machine sharing the printer, the only other choice to share this printer is a separate hardware device like the one dglienna posted above (there are many others also).
