After multiple days (3-4) of "normal" operating, the printer server will just pause and then die. We are having to power off to get the print queue to restart where jobs are spooled properly. Using Aix 4.3.3. Any suggestions? Smit options are not useful in stopping and starting the server. have tried ipcrm -q to stop and still will not start normally until after re-boot.

Is an individual queue dying, or the qdaemon itself? or the lpd server? or a third party product?

How are you using ipcrm -q to stop the process?

Thanks for you help Rod
The entire qdaemon dies. Of course the lpd server pauses and stops all jobs from being queued thru the 3rd party software. Nothing is being printed directly from the OS.

The ipcrm -q command is used after ipcs -q to view the servers that are running.
There are approx 250 users on this system at all times during a normal business day.
With the background servers, I am proficient.
