We've got a host of HP LaserJet printers here and only 3 are cable of being seamlessly used between 32 and 64bit. After exhausting google, technet, and just about every other forum a search can return, I'm still no closer to finding a solution.
We're in the middle of migrating from 32bit to 64bit. Everything we have is migrating piece by piece. I've hit a brick wall with the shared directory printers. All because one driver has a space in it's name in one spot and the other doesn't. For example:
32bit
HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL 6
64bit
HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL6
I just can't come up with a reason why vendors would do this. It wouldn't be a big deal if I could just migrate our entire NOS to 64bit in a weekend, but of course that's just not plausible. It's going to take me months (it already has).
Anyway, what's a guy to do in this situation. Is it recommended to use the "Universal" driver during migration? Universal = issues just waiting to happen in my mind. Is it possible to rename these drivers so they take? I've looked at the inf's but this just seems like absolute non-sense to have to do this with 30 different printer models.
Anyone been here and done this already? Any advice is greatly appreciated..
