Print queue (non NDPS) problems!

Hi,

My printer (HP DeskJet 720C) doesn't seem to be compatible with my external printserver (HP JetDirect 170x). At least, the HP Jet Admin software detects the printer and I can create the queue, printserver and printer objects in the NDS but when I try to print the job status says 'ready' and won't do anything.

When looking at Job List (in the queue object properties) with NW Admin I can see the job is waiting for the print server. When looking at the printserver object properties it tells me status is down. The tab 'print layout' displays the three objects linked together, but the printserver object is shown with a exclamation mark.

What's wrong?

Or maybe there's another way to share my printer on my Novell Netware 5 network?

Can I e.g. connect the printer directly to the LPT port of my server for instance?

Help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, Erwin

Likely your problem can be solved, hwvr you have posted this msg in the Novell 3 forum, and Novell 3 does not support NDS, which came in with Novell 4.

I think you would be more likely to get responses if you start your thread in Novell Netware 4 - it is more active than this forum and the folks over there are more familiar with NDS than us old fogeys.

You can connect your printer directly to the server and then configure it as a local connect printer and assign it to a print queue. However I don't have any Novell 4 docos so can't give you the ins and outs of doing that under NDS.
