print queue goes down

this is probably a pretty simple fix but we have yet to figure it out. We purchased a new unix box with aix 4.3 and everything is running great except for the print queues. We have encounted a problem when a printer runs out of paper, the queue goes down completely. we load the paper and the job begins again from the begining. On our old box, if there was an error such as out of paper, the queue would stay up and all we had to do was load the paper and it would resume where it had left off. If anyone could offer assistance, I would be very grateful.
