Working on a win2K stand alone machine. Whenever I send a job to the printer, it goes to the queue, but takes about 5 minutes before it starts to print. Using an HP Officejet5110 via USB. Uninstalled software/drivers and reinstalled from fresh d/l from HP website. Tried changing spooler settings. Hooked up printer on an XP machine and it prints fine, so it's not the printer.

Also noticed CPU usage goes to 100%, mainly explorer.exe, when the job goes to the printer. I've scanned using Trend MIcro Sysclean and Spybot.

Any ideas?

Some applications can make a print job that can be a couple hundred MB.

Is your computer running with USB 2.0? USB1.1 is only 1.5MB/sec IIRC, and if you have a huge spool file, it will take a while for it to send to the printer...

Solved the problem by changing to a driver that's native to Win2k - a different OfficeJet model. Now it prints right away like it's supposed to.
