User is prompted for several parms, which are printed on report header when select is successful. When no records are found, he wants to see the parms he entered. Transposed numbers are the common problem, but once report finishes his dialogue box is gone. Using Crystal 8 with Peoplesoft and DB2. [sig][/sig]

Cliffben,

I am afraid this may be a PeopleSoft issue.
Crystal 8 will typically preview the report even if no records are found.

From what you describe, not only is the PS parameters window gone, but the report itself either doesn't print, or it prints with a blank header. What is the object in the report header that usually prints selected parameters:

Is it a true parameter field?
Is it a formula?
Is it the special field called "Record Selection formula"?

The report prints with a blank header. We pass the parameters (prompts) entered by the user as [sig]<p>Cliff Bennett<br>[/sig]

My apologies if I misled you. I had to be reminded we have Crystal 6.0.1 in production. [sig]<p>Cliff Bennett<br>[/sig]

cliffben,

Part of your response got cut off.
What is the crystal object on the report header that usually prints the users choices.

Is it a parameter field?
Is it insider a text box or formula?

Crystal 6 also shows a page in preview with the parameter even with zero records. Can you try running this report from the design environment and see if you get the same behavior? Or does it only happen when launched from PS?

Parameters in the header section print the users' choices, not inside text boxes or formulas. The same behavior occurs in Print Preview, as well as PS Launch. If the select is successful, the parameters contain the user prompts. If the select fails, the parameters are blank. [sig]<p>Cliff Bennett<br>[/sig]

cliff,

You are running this in standalone CR6 and still losing the parameter value?

I just did it again in CR 6.0 to confirm.
A paramter will print the selection in the report header or page header, even if there are no records. At least that is the behavior I am getting. I am not sure what is different between your environment and mine.

Is your Crystal Reports a custom version specifically for PS or is it off the shelf CR 6.0? That is the only thing that I can think of that would cause yours to behave differently than mine.

I assume that if you put a simple text label in the same section that it would print, and that the print date in that section prints? What would happen if you put the parameter into a text object or formula field and printed the result?

Sorry I can't be of much more help, [sig]<p>Ken Hamady<br><a href=mailto:ken@kenhamady.com>ken@kenhamady.com</a><br><a href= Reports Taining by Ken Hamady</a><br>[/sig]

It could be the cutome link between PS and Crystal.
You are right about the print date printing in a text box. I will try the parm-in-a-box method when I get back in town and keep you posted. Thx for your patience.
Have a nice day. [sig]<p>Cliff Bennett<br>[/sig]
