I find all of the information u provide so useful and sure use it whenever necessary. Esp. date formatting.

I have crystal 8.5 and design reports all day long. I have a little problem you might find silly, but nevertheless any help is welcome.

This is the scenario.
I have client listing and I am able to obtain the info I need. I show consolidated versus detailed information depending on who asks for it.. Our is a hospital environment. So there are times when I need to show the clients name with how many hrs he has used up that month and also show the very first detail which shows when he started the treatment.

Eg: John Smith has been a client for 8 mths. He is in treatment since Jan 15, 2001.

Now my report shows the detailed and consolidated look at his case breakdown..
We need to see only the very first activity date of John, which took place on Feb 1, 2001 which is the very first record in the detail line.
We wld like to see the first line activity of all clients too. So this is not for one isolated client but all clients within the system

Is there an easier way to show it without me having to manually write the date down.after doing my report ?

Your help is much appreciated.

Sort your report so that the first date is at the top. Then insert a running total count field, evaluate on every record, reset on change of group=client. Then conditionally suppress all detail records if {#count}>1.

This way you will see only one record per client, and it will be the one you want.

Please be advised that conditional supression of records will not keep their data from evaluating in any sub or grand totals. If this is the case you will need to use running totals or variables. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Group by client and put any fields you want to see in the Group Header. The Group header will only show values from the first record of each group. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Ken,

Your input is greatly appreciated. It was a breeze to do it once you know how to do it with proper guidance.

Thanks ever so much for your immediate response. It does exactly what I wanted and getting from a professional such as you is awesome.

Thanks once again.
