print layout different from screen?

Hello, I'm a newbie with a layout question. My tri-fold brochure doesn't quite fold right. When I examine the screen version vs. what I get on paper after printing, I find differing dimensions. To wit:

On screen, my 3 columns are 1mm, 94mm, and 186mm from the left margin.
On paper, my 3 columns are 8.2mm, 97mm, snf 186mm from the left margin.

My column gutters are each 1mm wide. I could make up for the discrepancy if I knew how to account for that "extra bit" of paper tacked on to the left margin. I can't find anything in Help or my book. Any ideas?

A clarification: above is what I get after converting to PDF then printing. When I print directly from InDesign, the folds work BUT it cuts off part of my text on the margins.

Generally differences are due to your printer settings. Depending on your machine it can have all sorts of differences. You might have options like "shrink to fit paper", positioning, etc.

When you get the ID print dialogue, check the Setup to see what's set. But also click on boxes at the bottom of the print dialogue window for "page setup" and "printer" to make sure your settings there are correct. I'm on OSX. If you're on Windows the print dialogue window might be slightly different.

Depending on how you're creating the pdf, your doc appears to be shrunk to fit the page size. Just for trial, set your doc margins to zero and see how the pdf compares then.

Getting cut off usually means that you're running outside the print margins of the printer. Check the manual for the printer to see what the minimums are.

Int he Setup pat of the print dialogue try setting to shring to fit and set page postion to Centered and see how that works.
