Print Jobs going to the Wrong Printer

I have a strange problem. Yesterday I installed a Ricoh printer on my NT (NT4 SP6a) network using an AXIS print server. I mapped the new printer to each workstation on the network.

My problem is some of the workstations share a local printer. Example Workstation A has a DeskJet directly connected; Workstation B has a printer mapped to the printer on Workstation A. Both machine have a mapping to the new Ricoh printer. What happens is when workstation B tries to print to the DeskJet connected to Workstation A, the job prints out on the Ricoh instead.

Another problem; the Ricoh is also grabbing any print job, even ones from computer that don’t have a mapping to it.

Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

Just to give this problem a bump!

We have this issue too. We have a variety of Printers hanging off Jetdirect Boxes & a couple of Hp4050s with the jetdirect card installed.

We set the printer mappings on a 'per room' basis using identifier files on the local drive and have the login script check for them and then map the correct share using con2prt

However, now and again, the workstation ignores the con2prt command and retains an old setting with the result that a print job comes out in a totally different room. the problem is NT related - it does not happen on any of out 9x clients.

Sometimes, deleting the offending users USER.DAT file from the profile directory curesd the problem - but it does seem to come back.

Just to make things curiouser, it seems to be just 2 queues (out of about 20) that have this problem (ie retain the mapping no matter where the use logs on), and they are on different servers...
