I am trying to configure a printer under solaris 8 to print to a windows 2000 print server.

I have installed unix print services on the W2K system, started the service. the printer sharename is called EP5120

then I tried using the Solaris printmanager (Solaris 8) to install a network printer.
the IP of the windows system is 192.168.0.1 which I put in my /etc/hosts as prx
so I entered the destination prx:EP1520
However this is not working.
I checked the old threads but I think they all refer to older solaris versions. Is there a way to make this work via this GUI or do I have to setup the printer via the commandline ?

ok I can answer my own question...
since there was no answer yet, I tried the following

lpadmin -p printername -s servername!sharename
enable and accept are not accepted since it says it is a remote printer

and shocking but true, the $#!$@$# thing is finally printing. the looking at the printermanager GUI, the properties page looks entirely different. but there cyou can set it to default, and it all suddenly works...

And now I also know how to add it in the printer manager windows... add access to printer, where printername is the sharename under W2K, and server, the name of the printer (make an entry in /etc/hosts for that server)

Damn 5 hours down the drain just trying... but Okay it works now...

maybe this is usefull to someone else in this format...
