Print and close report on open

I have a report that formats the page and margins when it is opend in preview mode with some code. What I can't seem to do is once the design opens and sets the margins is print the report and close it again. The report has to open in preview mode for the formating to work.

I have tried docmd.open form etc and docmd.printout and I just keep getting the message "This action can not be carried out while proccesing a form or report event"

any ideas.
