Hello
Strange situation here. I have an HP printer connected to a Sun machine. The printer has an ip address, 10.2.0.100
I can successfully ping this printer from the sun box.
I take out the printer, and connect another one, an Infotec printer with internal NIC. Add this printers name and identical ip address in the /etc/hosts file.
I cannot ping this printer from the sun box - I can however successfully ping it from my desktop pc (W2K).

Any ideas why this would happen?

BIS,

Your solaris box remembers the hardward address of the first printer. You must reboot your solaris box or remove the arp entry.

Example: arp -a | grep 10.2.0.100
You will see the hardware address of the first printer

arp -d 10.2.0.100 - will delete then entry

ping 10.2.0.100 - your new printer should respond

Many thanks for this info.
