I have a second hard drive (D) slaved to my first. It has always worked. Suddenly my computer can't find it. It is no longer listed in my device manager. In Bios it is not listed either. Of course all of my photos are on it and I just bought a thumb drive to copy them over. How do I get my computer to remember that it is there? If I remove my c: and replace it with D: instead, would that do it?

KarateLois,
Did you or anybody fiddled with the ide cable? Just check to make sure that the red (or black) line on the ide cable is next to the power socket on the drive. If it is then, it's highly likely that your slave drive is faulty. Try to connect it to the secondary ide channel & see if the computer can detect it.

Do this: disconnect the ide cable from the CDROM and connect it to the slave drive. Restart the computer and see if the computer can detect it. If not, then it looks like the drive is dead. Of course, if you have access to another computer, connect the drive as primary master and see if the other computer can see it.

Regards
