Based on our old phone system (Panasonic), attorney's had two extensions. The first and primary extension was a 4 digit extension (2413) associated with their DID. The secretary would not answer this extension even though they were configured to see the line appearance. A second extension was a 3 digit extension (413) where the secretary would answer it and then determine if they needed to transfer the call to the attorney or transfer the call to VM. Generally speaking, the receptionist would always transfer the call to the 3 digit extension. If the secretary didn't intercept the call to the 3 digit extension (413), the caller would be redirected to the 2413 VM account.

Can we do the same with our Mitel ICP? We have a LX 3300 ICP v7.x, embedded VM and 5235 phones.

When the receptionist transfers a call to the second extension and if the secretary doesn't answer the call, is there a way to configure the second extension to redirect the caller to the primary extension's VM account?

Thanks

Ron

I'm not sure if it will work but you could try numbering the secondary ext #423

Sorry, That should have been #2413 (5 digit ext) more digits for assistant to dial but if it works ...

According to our business partner, just having a second extension will not work. Currently, the receptionist transfers the call to the second extension, and if the secretary doesn't pickup the call, the caller gets redirected to the night greeting and the client gets upset and the receptionist doesn't want to monitor the call to recover the call.

The second extension re-routes to vm the same as the first. the trick is the # preceeding the extension. this "Tricks" the embedded voicemail into believing the call is for the subsequent 4 digit extension. I know this works perfectly when configured as an always routing condition for the purpose of transfering directly to VM. What I don't know is if it also works in a no answer condition.
Primary Extension XXXX
Secondary Extension #XXXX
Both route first Alt to VM
Both Route to VM XXXX?
