Primary and Standby on same host

Hi,
I'm trying to set up a stand by database system and in the on the same machine as my primary database system.
THe machine OS is Win NT

However, when I try to start the second(either one) database I'm getting:
ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode

Any help??

Don't know much about standby databases but.......

Do both your databases have the same SID?
